gettin crazy in the waves

My little boy ran into the ocean and started playing around having fun. Then all of the sudden he screams and tears his hand down to pull up a big shark like creature with massive teeth and jaws the size of Texas, and what does he find? A little piece of sea weed! It had wrapped around his waiste which made it feel like a sea monster. I laughed so hard, which is a great lesson in how to relieve stress btw, he thought for sure he was a gonner. I felt bad a little after it because he had the b-jesus scared out of him. But sometimes I wish I had a camera with me at all times.

Whole Sum Fishiness

My name’s Ellen. I’m a 32 year old personal trainer and amatuer marine biologist. I spend most of my time time near the coast, just north of Carmel, California, mucking around in oceanic wildlife, seeing what I can find.

I have a  three children. Charlie is 8, and Amanda and Megan (twins!) are 3. Charlie’s been coming out to the ocean with me recently, he’s in love with octopi. He’s very informed on the differences between squid and octopi, and he will have nothing to do with the squid. He knows the octopi is a smarter, independent creature, and squid just flow with the crowd.

Anyway, I love to eat fish, which is weird since I love to study them alive, but hey, to each his own, right? So this blog is all about what fish do when they are alive, and what they taste like when they are dead. Hope you enjoy!
